Understanding What Is in Your Package
BDE stands for Beginner Driver Education, Ontario's MTO-approved new driver training program. Here is what each component means and what you actually get.
The MTO classroom component, completed entirely online at your own pace. Covers traffic laws, road signs, defensive driving principles, and everything on the G1 written test. Access it on any device, any time.
20h online at your own paceThe MTO in-class equivalent, completed as guided home study. This component satisfies the remaining classroom requirement and deepens understanding of everything covered in the online modules.
10h home study on a flexible scheduleThe hands-on component. Your instructor picks you up and covers everything the road test requires, starting from basics and progressing through test-route specific practice. Defensive driving skills are included in every lesson. Standard gets 10 hours, Extended gets 15 hours.
10h Standard or 15h Extended, free pick-upCompleting a certified BDE program reduces your mandatory G1 waiting period from 12 months down to 8 months before you can book your G2 road test. That is 4 months faster than going without a BDE program.
Upon completing the BDE program, you can receive an MTO insurance certificate by applying for one at Service Ontario. Present it to your auto insurer and receive a discount on your car insurance premium for multiple years after licensing. Included in both Omega packages at no extra charge.
The Driver's Licence History is a permanent database record of your BDE completion, maintained by the MTO and recognised by all Ontario insurance providers. It serves as verifiable proof that you completed a certified BDE course and is the record insurers use to apply your discount. Included in both Omega packages.
Not all driving schools are BDE certified. Omega has been MTO-approved to deliver BDE since the early 2000s. If a school does not offer an insurance certificate and Driver's Licence History upon completion, they are not delivering a certified BDE program.

Pricing and Course FAQ
Which package should I choose: Standard or Extended?
For a complete beginner with no experience, we generally recommend the Extended Package. The extra 5 in-car hours allow us to focus specifically on the manoeuvres and routes that cause the most road test failures: parallel parking, three-point turns, and scanning habits. If the student has some prior experience or is returning after a break, the Standard Package may be sufficient. When in doubt, call us and our instructors will give you an honest recommendation based on your situation.
What exactly is included in the price: are there any extra charges?
Both BDE packages include everything listed: the theory courses, home-study curriculum, in-car hours, free pick-up and drop-off, the Driver's Licence History (DLH) record, and road test booking assistance. The only charges not included are the MTO road test fee (paid directly to DriveTest when you book) and the optional use of our vehicle for road test day. There are no surprise fees on completion day.
How long does the full BDE program take to complete?
The timeline varies by student. The online theory and home-study components can typically be completed in 2 to 4 weeks depending on how much time you put in each day. In-car lessons are scheduled around your availability and most students complete their in-car hours within 4 to 8 weeks. The full BDE program is usually done in 6 to 12 weeks from registration to road test.
Can I add more in-car hours if I need them?
Yes. Individual lesson blocks are available at $60+HST per hour, with 5-lesson ($275+HST) and 10-lesson ($550+HST) blocks available at a reduced rate of $55 per hour. Many students in the Standard Package add a lesson block or two before their road test. We will always be upfront with you about whether we think more hours would help.
What is the Driver's Licence History (DLH) and why does it matter?
The Driver's Licence History is a permanent MTO database record confirming that you completed a certified BDE program. It is the record Ontario insurance companies look up to verify your BDE completion and apply your insurance discount. The MTO insurance certificate and the DLH record together are what trigger the premium reduction your insurer offers to BDE graduates. Both are included in both Omega packages at no additional charge.
What happens on G2 road test day in Etobicoke?
The G2 road test (also called the G1 exit test) takes place at the Etobicoke DriveTest centre at Centennial Park Plaza, 5555 Eglinton Ave W. The test typically lasts 20 to 30 minutes and covers left and right turns, lane changes, stops at railway crossings, roadside stops, parallel parking, and three-point turns. An MTO examiner rides in the passenger seat and scores you on a checklist. You are permitted to use our dual-control vehicle for the test for an additional fee. We assist with road test booking and will walk you through exactly what to expect before your appointment.
Do you offer Full G highway test preparation?
Yes. G2 holders preparing for their Full G licence test can book individual lessons specifically focused on 400-series highway driving. The Full G test requires demonstrated competency at highway speeds including merging, lane changes, and exit ramps. Our individual lesson blocks at $60+HST per hour (or $275+HST for five lessons) are the natural fit for this. We pick you up anywhere in Etobicoke or Mississauga and focus entirely on the skills the Full G examiner assesses.
Can I use your car for my G2 road test?
Yes. If you do not have access to a vehicle on test day, we can provide our dual-control car for the DriveTest exam for an additional fee. Contact us to learn more and we will get it added to your file when you book your lesson package.
